You might think you’re alone in feeling nervous about going to the dentist. But let us be the first to tell you, you are in good company. In fact, many dentists have dental anxiety! It is perfectly normal but having anxiety or nervousness about the dental chair does not mean you need to white-knuckle your appointments. At Summit Dental & Implant Clinic we offer 3 tiers of relaxation for our patients. From sleeping through your appointment, to just taking a bit of the edge off, we have a solution to make you feel comfortable.
Have you ever canceled an appointment because you panicked last-minute? Do you have a bad gag reflex, or do you have a lot of dental work that needs to be done and just want to get it all done at once? We have great news. Sedation dentistry is an incredible way for you to keep your appointments without worry. You can choose both the way sedation is administered as well as the level of relaxation you receive.
Nitrous oxide is a mild sedative that can be inhaled. Right before your procedure we place a mask over your nose and mouth where a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen flow. You take a few deep breaths and almost immediately feel more relaxed and calmer. The effects wear off once your procedure is over and you are safe to drive yourself home! You will remember the procedure, but won’t have any anxiety or worry.
If you need something a little stronger, we suggest oral sedation. About an hour before your appointment you will take a prescription sedative and then you will receive additional medicine at your appointment as needed to make you comfortable the entire time. By the time your procedure begins you will be feeling sleepy and relaxed. Most patients have a vague memory of the procedure, but it feels more like a dream than reality. You will need to have someone drive you home if you choose oral sedation.
We work with a fabulous anesthesiologist to administer IV or sleep sedation. If you’d rather sleep and have no memory of your time in the chair, this option is for you. When you arrive, we will administer a relaxation aid via IV and you will wake up with no memory of your procedure at all. This option is unique to our office and we are so excited to be able to offer it to our patients.
If you are interested in learning more about sedation and how it can help you, please give us a call. We are here to provide answers to all your questions to ensure you are relaxed and comfortable during your visit.
Remember, putting off needed dental procedures will only lead to more pain, and more discomfort down the road. Sedation is an amazing tool to help you get the care you need, comfortably.

Dr. Calloway and his staff are as good as you will find anywhere. I was pleased in every category. The entire staff made me feel very welcome. I know that they truly care and want the best for me. The office had very pleasent and peaceful atmosphere with the most modern dental technology available. I have known Dr. Calloway for a long time and I have a great deal of respect for him. I have been to several dentist over the years and I choose to drive nearly an hour away just for Dr. Calloway.
My first time coming here was an emergency visit on the weekend. He came in without hesitation and was more than willingly to help. His family came with him and they were all nice too. He fixed my issue pretty quick and continued with a follow up appointment a month later. The environment is very friendly and welcoming. They also play great music here!
Dr. Calloway and his staff actually made going to the dentist enjoyable. From the moment I walked in, they were friendly and professional. Dr. Calloway and his staff are very passionate and knowledgeable and never made me feel silly for any question I might have had. My experience at Summit Dental far exceeded any other dental experience I’ve had. I highly recommend Dr. Calloway.
